Lek Ladki Yojana 2026: Eligibility, Benefits, Documents and Application Process

Raising a daughter involves many expenses, especially when it comes to education, healthcare and other basic needs. Families with limited income sometimes find it difficult to manage these costs. To support such families and encourage the education of girls, the Maharashtra Government introduced the Lek Ladki Yojana.

Under this scheme, an eligible girl can receive financial assistance of ₹1,01,000 in five instalments. The money is provided from her birth until she turns 18. The scheme is mainly meant for families holding yellow or orange ration cards.

Here is a simple explanation of the Lek Ladki Yojana 2026, including its benefits, eligibility rules, required documents and application process.

What Is Lek Ladki Yojana?

Lek Ladki Yojana is a financial assistance scheme run by the Women and Child Development Department of the Maharashtra Government. It was implemented from 1 April 2023 to support girls belonging to financially weaker families.

The name “Lek Ladki” means “beloved daughter.” The scheme aims to ensure that a girl is not considered a financial burden on her family. Instead of providing the complete amount at once, the government releases assistance at important stages of the girl’s life and education.

An eligible beneficiary receives money after birth, admission to Classes 1, 6 and 11, and after completing 18 years of age. The total assistance available under the scheme is ₹1.01 lakh.

How Much Money Is Given Under Lek Ladki Yojana?

The financial support is divided into five instalments. This allows the family to receive assistance when the girl starts different stages of her education.

StageFinancial assistance
After the birth of the girl₹5,000
After admission to Class 1₹6,000
After admission to Class 6₹7,000
After admission to Class 11₹8,000
After completing 18 years₹75,000
Total amount₹1,01,000

The largest instalment of ₹75,000 is provided after the beneficiary turns 18, subject to the required conditions. The amount is transferred through the Direct Benefit Transfer system to the registered bank account. Zilla Parishad Satara

What Is the Main Purpose of the Scheme?

Lek Ladki Yojana is not limited to providing money. It has been designed to address several problems affecting girls from economically weaker families.

Its main objectives are:

  • To create a positive attitude towards the birth of a girl child.
  • To encourage parents to continue their daughter’s education.
  • To reduce the number of girls dropping out of school.
  • To prevent child marriage by supporting girls until the age of 18.
  • To reduce malnutrition and female child mortality.
  • To improve the position of girls within their families and society.
  • To provide financial security for education and future needs.

Because the payments are connected with school admission, parents have a strong reason to keep their daughters in education.

Who Is Eligible for Lek Ladki Yojana?

A family must fulfil the prescribed eligibility conditions before applying for the scheme.

The main eligibility rules are:

  • The beneficiary girl must have been born on or after 1 April 2023.
  • The girl’s family must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.
  • The family must possess a valid yellow or orange ration card.
  • The family’s annual income should not be more than ₹1 lakh.
  • The scheme applies to one or two eligible daughters in a family.
  • A family having one son and one daughter can claim the benefit for the daughter.
  • The beneficiary’s registered bank account must be maintained in Maharashtra.
  • A family planning certificate must be submitted at the prescribed stage.
  • For the final instalment, the beneficiary must be 18 years old and unmarried.

If the first child was born before 1 April 2023 and the second child is a girl born on or after that date, the second girl may be covered. The scheme can also cover eligible twin girls born during the second delivery, subject to family planning conditions.

Parents should confirm their eligibility with the local Anganwadi worker because special family situations may require additional verification.

Which Documents Are Required to Apply?

Applicants should collect the necessary documents before submitting the Lek Ladki Yojana form. Missing or incorrect documents can delay verification and payment.

The commonly required documents include:

  • Birth certificate of the beneficiary girl
  • Aadhaar card of the girl, if issued
  • Aadhaar cards of both parents
  • Yellow or orange ration card
  • Maharashtra residence proof
  • Family income certificate issued by the Tehsildar or competent authority
  • Copy of the first page of the bank passbook
  • Aadhaar-linked bank account details
  • Joint photograph of the girl and her mother
  • Family planning surgery certificate, wherever applicable
  • Mobile number of the parent or guardian

A school bonafide or admission certificate will be required when claiming instalments linked with Classes 1, 6 and 11. For the last instalment, the beneficiary may have to provide her voter identification details and a self-declaration confirming that she is unmarried.

The Aadhaar card of the newborn may not be compulsory for claiming the first instalment. However, parents should get it prepared later because it can be required for subsequent payments.

How Can Parents Apply for Lek Ladki Yojana?

The traditional application process begins through the local Anganwadi centre. Parents must first register the birth of the girl with the concerned municipal body, Gram Panchayat or other local authority.

They can then follow these steps:

  1. Visit the nearest Anganwadi centre and contact the Anganwadi Sevika.
  2. Ask for the prescribed Lek Ladki Yojana application form.
  3. Fill in the girl’s personal, family, income and bank details.
  4. Attach self-attested copies of all required documents.
  5. Submit the completed application to the Anganwadi Sevika.
  6. The worker will check the form and forward it to the supervisor.
  7. The application will be examined by the concerned Child Development Project Officer.
  8. After approval, the eligible amount will be credited to the registered bank account.

Applicants should keep a copy or acknowledgement of the submitted form. Names, dates of birth and Aadhaar details must be the same across the birth certificate, ration card, bank account and application.

What Is the New Online Application Update for 2026?

The Maharashtra Government has announced a simpler application system for Lek Ladki Yojana. Parents will be able to submit applications directly through the Aaple Sarkar portal. Aadhaar-based details and e-KYC of the beneficiary and her parents are expected to make verification faster.

According to the announced process, beneficiaries eligible from 1 April 2023 can apply until 15 August 2027. For newly registered cases after this period, an application will generally need to be submitted within one year of the girl’s birth.

The simplified system is also expected to remove the need to file a fresh application at every instalment stage. However, applicants should check whether online registration has been fully activated in their district. Until then, the local Anganwadi centre remains the most reliable point of contact.

How Can Applicants Avoid Application Rejection?

Many applications are delayed because of small mistakes. Parents should check the following points before submitting the form:

  • Do not enter different spellings of the girl’s or parents’ names.
  • Ensure that the bank account is active and linked with Aadhaar.
  • Submit a valid income certificate, not an expired one.
  • Use the correct yellow or orange ration card.
  • Register the girl’s birth before applying.
  • Keep the registered mobile number active.
  • Collect school certificates when the girl enters the required classes.
  • Inform the Anganwadi worker if the address or bank account changes.
  • Do not submit false income or family information.

Conclusion

Lek Ladki Yojana is an important girl-child welfare scheme in Maharashtra. It provides eligible girls with a total of ₹1,01,000 from birth to 18 years of age. Families with yellow or orange ration cards and an annual income of up to ₹1 lakh should check their eligibility and register through the nearest Anganwadi centre or the officially notified online system.
