SBI Amrit Vrishti Scheme 2026: Interest Rate, Benefits and How to Invest

The SBI Amrit Vrishti scheme is a special fixed deposit with a tenure of 444 days. It offers a fixed interest rate, with additional interest for eligible senior citizens.

Before opening this FD, though, make sure you are looking at the current rate. Several older articles still show the higher interest rates offered when the scheme launched.

Here is what you should know about SBI Amrit Vrishti, including its interest rates, investment conditions, withdrawal rules and application process.

What Is the SBI Amrit Vrishti Scheme?

SBI Amrit Vrishti is a fixed deposit offered by the State Bank of India. You deposit money once and keep it invested for 444 days.

Unlike a recurring deposit, you do not contribute a fixed amount every month. Instead, you invest a lump sum and choose from the available interest payment options.

The scheme covers eligible domestic retail term deposits, including specified NRI rupee deposits, below ₹3 crore. Eligible new deposits and renewals can be booked under the scheme.

Its duration may suit someone saving for a planned expense, such as home repairs or a purchase scheduled after maturity. However, the deposit period should match when you actually need the money.

SBI Amrit Vrishti Interest Rate in 2026

The published SBI Amrit Vrishti interest rate for general customers is 6.45% per annum, effective from 15 December 2025.

Eligible resident senior citizens receive 6.95% per annum. Eligible resident customers aged 80 years and above can receive 7.05% per annum, including the additional benefit under SBI Patrons.

These are annual rates. The final interest amount depends on your investment, payment option and how long the deposit remains with the bank.

For joint deposits under SBI Patrons, the primary account holder must meet the age requirement. Check that the bank has recorded your date of birth correctly so that the appropriate benefit can apply.

Why Do Some Websites Mention 7.25%?

The scheme launched in July 2024 with a general customer rate of 7.25% and a senior citizen rate of 7.75%.

Those were the original rates. They should not be used to estimate returns on a new deposit at today’s published rate.

An older advertisement may also show an earlier application deadline. Check current availability through SBI instead of relying on a launch announcement.

Who Can Invest in SBI Amrit Vrishti?

Eligible domestic customers can open the deposit after meeting SBI’s account and documentation requirements. The scheme also includes eligible NRI rupee deposits, subject to the relevant conditions.

Existing customers should check that their KYC records and personal details are updated. New customers can ask the branch which documents are needed for their particular account.

NRI customers should verify the terms for their NRE or NRO deposit separately. Resident senior citizen benefits should not automatically be assumed to apply to NRI deposits.

SBI’s standard term deposit minimum is ₹1,000. Confirm the permitted amount displayed in the Amrit Vrishti booking process before proceeding.

How Much Will ₹1 Lakh Earn in 444 Days?

Suppose you invest ₹1 lakh at 6.45% annually.

A simple-interest illustration would be:

₹1,00,000 × 6.45% × 444 ÷ 365 = approximately ₹7,846

This gives an illustrative total of ₹1,07,846 before tax.

However, this is not the bank’s exact maturity quotation. A cumulative deposit can give a different result because of compounding. If you choose regular interest payments, some of your return is paid during the deposit period instead.

The most useful figure is the maturity amount shown by SBI before confirmation. Note that amount, along with the maturity date, so you can plan around the actual deposit terms.

How Is the Interest Paid?

Amrit Vrishti provides periodic interest options for term deposits and payment at maturity for special term deposits.

The documented periodic options include monthly, quarterly and half-yearly payments.

Choosing between them depends on why you are investing. Someone who needs money for regular expenses may prefer periodic interest. Someone building savings for one future purchase may prefer receiving the accumulated amount at maturity.

SBI pays monthly interest at a discounted rate. Therefore, simply dividing the annual interest by twelve may not give the exact amount credited each month.

Ask for the expected payout before selecting an option.

How to Open an SBI Amrit Vrishti FD

You can book the deposit through an SBI branch, internet banking or YONO, subject to availability and account eligibility.

Use these steps as a practical checklist:

  1. Sign in to SBI’s official banking service or visit your branch.
  2. Open the fixed deposit facility.
  3. Enter the amount you wish to deposit.
  4. Select a tenure of 444 days.
  5. Check the interest rate and customer category displayed.
  6. Choose your preferred interest payment option.
  7. Review the maturity date and instructions.
  8. Confirm the details and save your deposit receipt.

The names of menus and buttons can change. What matters is checking the tenure, rate and payment instructions before submitting.

If you visit a branch, ask the staff to explain any condition you do not understand before signing.

Can You Withdraw the Money Early?

Yes, premature withdrawal is available, but you may receive less interest than originally expected.

SBI’s published scheme conditions specify the following penalties:

Deposit amountPremature withdrawal penalty
Up to ₹5 lakh0.50 percentage point
Above ₹5 lakh and below ₹3 crore1 percentage point

The bank recalculates interest under its early-withdrawal rules. The calculation considers the period the money actually remained deposited and the applicable rate.

This is not simply a charge deducted from your principal. Ask SBI for the closure value before making a decision.

Keeping emergency money separately can help you avoid closing a planned deposit unexpectedly.

Is a Loan Available Against the Deposit?

A loan facility is available against the deposit, subject to SBI’s terms.

This may be useful when you need money temporarily, but borrowing comes with an interest cost. Compare that cost with the reduction in FD interest caused by premature closure.

For a short borrowing period, one option may work out cheaper. For a longer period, the result could be different. Ask the bank for both calculations instead of assuming that keeping the FD running will always save money.

Tax Rules You Should Know

Amrit Vrishti is not a tax-saving fixed deposit. Investing in it does not automatically provide the tax deduction associated with an eligible tax-saving FD.

Interest is subject to the applicable tax rules, and SBI may deduct TDS where required.

Eligible customers can submit the prescribed declaration for non-deduction, provided they meet the relevant conditions. A declaration should not be submitted simply because someone wants to avoid TDS.

Also, no TDS deduction does not necessarily mean the interest is tax-free. Estimate your return after considering your overall tax position.

Is SBI Amrit Vrishti Safe?

Amrit Vrishti is a bank fixed deposit with a stated return under its terms.

Eligible deposits are covered by DICGC insurance up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, including principal and interest, when held in the same right and capacity.

This limit applies to combined eligible balances at SBI. It is not a separate ₹5 lakh cover for every FD or every branch.

Before investing, consider both the deposit’s return and how much of your total savings you are placing with one bank.
